Innovation is at the heart of all we do at WellSky, and nothing exemplifies our relentless drive to shape the future of health and community care like DevDays.
WellSky scrum coach Kassandra Cardenas was pretty excited to meet tech expert and author Gene Kim during this year’s DevDays events. She posted on LinkedIn: “Thank you WellSky for encouraging your teammates to learn and grow by setting up events like these throughout the year.”
DevDays is our annual summit for WellSky engineering, IT, data science, analytics, and solutions management teams where the focus is on big-picture thinking—going beyond the day-to-day to envision the future of our company and our industry.
This year, WellSky teammates met virtually over three days to hear from industry experts like Kelsey Hightower, principal engineer for Google Cloud, and tech expert and author Gene Kim.
“WellSky’s battle cry is to imagine it, be bold, and make it happen! Healthcare is who we are. What a great first exposure to DevDays I’ve had,” said Denna Williamson-Davis, associate scrum master at WellSky.
Beyond opportunities to learn from leaders in the field and network with teammates across the country, DevDays offers teammates the chance to get creative and even compete with each other in fun activities. Teammates participated in a “codebashing” tournament for prizes (and bragging rights) and partnered together for a hackathon in which they collaborated to develop new ideas that can become fully realized WellSky solutions.
The hackathon is always an exciting event at WellSky, and the entire company was invited to listen in and see innovation at work. Ten Hackathon teams presented their cutting-edge ideas and vied for the opportunity to become finalists for Pitch Day later this fall, where one idea will be selected to receive funding for development. New this year, three executive sponsors—LaBebe Nickell, vice president of client relations; David Cristman, senior vice president, strategy; and Brett Leeth, vice president, business processing outsourced operations—also competed to partner with the finalists to help them deliver a winning business case.
“Excited and thankful that WellSky gives our engineering and solution management teammates the opportunity to spend three days learning, networking, and ultimately identifying innovative ways to better serve our clients,” said Michelle Justiss, vice president of solutions management.
As WellSky CEO Bill Miller said during his DevDays opening address, research and development is the thread that holds WellSky together. DevDays is a great example of how collaboration can spark innovation—and how WellSky is leading the healthcare and community care industries into the future.
