Editor’s Note:
This summer, we welcomed a group of talented interns to the WellSky engineering team. Over the course of several months, they contributed to real projects, asked big questions, and became part of the fabric of our teams. Through our Inside the Internship series, we’re sharing the internship experience and highlighting what they built, what they learned, and what surprised them along the way. In this edition, we’re sharing the story of Aaditya Monga, an intern who turned his interest in cybersecurity into meaningful contributions across multiple departments. Below is his journey from his perspective.

Three words I’d use to describe my internship at WellSky: impactful, cross-functional, and supportive.
I felt impactful because I worked on real projects that made a difference, like building AI agents that helped streamline internal processes and supported teams across the company. I collaborated with departments ranging from IT and InfoSec to agile coaches and professional services. That cross-functional exposure helped me understand how work flows across an organization, and how different teams contribute to a larger mission. Throughout my time at WellSky, I felt supported. When I would reach out - whether through Teams or in the elevator - people were always willing to share knowledge, offer advice, and help me grow. I had the freedom to explore areas I was passionate about, and the opportunities I was given often aligned directly with those interests.
One of the most exciting projects I worked on was a SOC 2 agent, a system that automated previously manual processes related to vendor security reports. It was a perfect fit for my interest in cybersecurity and allowed me to collaborate directly with InfoSec leadership. Being able to reduce manual work and improve accuracy while learning from security experts was an incredibly valuable experience.
One of the biggest lessons I’ll take with me is how to navigate ambiguity. Unlike the classroom, where expectations are clearly defined and rubrics guide every step, real-world projects often come with open-ended goals, shifting priorities, and unexpected roadblocks. This summer taught me how to stay adaptable - whether that meant asking the right questions, finding creative workarounds when tools didn't behave as expected, or figuring out how to move forward when the path wasn't clearly laid out. These are skills I know will be valuable in any role I take on next.
What surprised me most was the level of ownership and autonomy I was given. I expected to support small tasks, but instead I led projects, presented to teams, and built tools that were considered for production. Whether it was building a Helpdesk Agent to reduce ticket volume or an InfoSec automation tool, I had real freedom to make decisions, solve problems, and contribute meaningfully. That level of trust and responsibility made the experience feel less like an internship and more like being a true part of the team.
If I could share one piece of advice for future interns, it would be: don’t be afraid to reach out. Some of my best learning moments came from casual chats that turned into deeper conversations about projects, career paths, or tools I hadn't even heard of. Everyone here wants to see you succeed, so stay curious, ask questions, and make the most of those opportunities.
This summer at WellSky has been incredibly rewarding. I grew both technically and professionally. Most importantly, I was surrounded by a supportive community that encouraged exploration, shared knowledge freely, and made me feel like a valued contributor from day one. I will be walking away with new skills, meaningful connections, and a clear vision for where I want to go next.
