In this edition of our Teammate Spotlight, we get to know Zeid, Senior Principal Software Engineer and the technical lead for Team Igneous. From his early days tinkering with a ZX Spectrum to his current role keeping WellSky's cloud environments humming, Zeid's journey is a testament to his passion for technology and collaboration.
A Programmer from the Start
Zeid's fascination with programming began at a young age, fueled by a classic home computer of the era, the ZX Spectrum. Though his initial attempts at BASIC coding weren't hugely successful, the spark was ignited. He took his first programming class using Pascal in 10th grade, solidifying his desire to pursue a career in software engineering, and went on to earn a CS degree from Clark University.
A Wealth of Experience
Before joining WellSky, Zeid honed his skills across various companies. He started as a QA engineer at Metrowerks, where he gained valuable knowledge of compilers, operating systems, and development tools. He then ventured into the world of shareware development for BeOS, creating an FTP program and an icon management application. Later, he tackled new challenges at Quadralay, where he embraced the .NET framework for the first time. Finally, at SolarWinds, he played a key role in developing the SolarWinds Information Service (SWIS) tool.
A Passion for Learning and Collaboration
Zeid's love for technology extends beyond his work. He enjoys photography, capturing both landscapes and portraits. In his free time, he delves into the world of home automation and runs Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi to manage his smart home environment. When it comes to weekends, spending quality time with family and playing computer and board games together tops his list.
Finding a Home at WellSky
The opportunity to make an impact and work with former colleagues drew Zeid to WellSky. While the initial impression was one of a company with exciting challenges to overcome, he quickly embraced the fast-paced environment.
A Journey of Growth and Achievement
Over the years, Zeid's role has evolved significantly. He began as an individual contributor, building reusable libraries for developers. He then led the development of the Atlas Authentication Service before transitioning to lead Team Igneous, where his team is responsible for the WellSky's cloud environment. Today, his focus lies on empowering developers and ensuring they have the tools and support they need to succeed.
One of his proudest accomplishments is the smooth migration to GCP, a testament to his ability to adapt and make sound decisions based on his extensive experience. But what truly resonates with Zeid is the people he works with. He values the friendly, hardworking, and diverse Cloud team, where collaboration and mutual support are the cornerstones of a positive work environment. WellSky's commitment to professional growth allows him to explore new technologies and continuously refine his skillset.
A Look Forward
With his passion for technology and a collaborative spirit, Zeid is a valuable asset to the WellSky team. We look forward to seeing his continued contributions as he helps propel WellSky forward in the ever-evolving cloud landscape.
