A Journey from Bartender toDirector of Engineering
Before Angela (Ang) D. became the Director of Engineering - DevOps at WellSky, she balanced being a full-time student at DeVry University, a single mom, and a bartender. Her path to a successful engineering career was not a traditional one, but it’s a testament to her determination and hard work. With a passion for technology and a never-expanding skill set, Angela has been with WellSky for over 19 years, making a lasting impact across several teams and business units.
From HL7 Interface Analyst toDevOps Leader
Angela's career at WellSky began right after college, where she took on the role of an HL7 interface analyst in the professional services division. She quickly became immersed in the technical aspects of the role, from programming interfaces to migrating databases, and worked hands-on to bring clients live with WellSky software.
Interestingly, leadership wasn’t always on her radar, but Angela’s natural ability to guide others shone through — possibly a trait she honed as the eldest of four siblings. As she took on team lead responsibilities, she advanced into a managerial role, overseeing multiple departments in the rehabilitation business unit.
Angela's role expanded significantly as she built DevOps from the ground up within the post acute pillar.Her contributions didn’t stop there; she soon took on home care, specialty care, and the advisory and outsourced services business units to standardize DevOps practices across WellSky. Today, Angela plays an integral role in defining and championing DevOps best practices, making her a key part of WellSky's success story.
Passion Beyond Work
Outside of her leadership role, Angela has found new passions, particularly in the kitchen. During theCovid lockdown, she started cooking and developed a knack for experimenting with dishes that fuse her love of Korean flavors with other cuisines. She countsGordon Ramsay as one of her culinary inspirations and enjoys pushing the boundaries of her creations.
On weekends, you’ll findAngela soaking up the Florida sun with her family and her French bulldogs.Whether hitting the beach or exploring local parks, her Frenchies bring joy and energy into her life.
Impacting Patient Care atWellSky
Angela's favorite aspect of working at WellSky is the tangible impact the company has on improving healthcare outcomes. "There is nothing better than being at a client’s establishment and hearing end users say, ‘Wow, this system is so great and improves the process so I can spend more time with my patients.’"
She’s also proud of the WellSkyFoundation, which gives back to communities. But for Angela, it’s the knowledge that WellSky is making a real difference in patient care that keeps her motivated and passionate about her work.
