An Unconventional Path to Data Science
Mark's journey to WellSky wasn't a typical data science route. After working as an occupational therapist, he delved into the world of neuroscience research, earning a Ph.D. in Therapeutic Science with a focus on brain injuries. It was during this research that he discovered the fascinating world of data analysis and machine learning. Analyzing mountains of neuroimaging data sparked a new passion, leading him to the exciting field of data science.
A Dedication to Making a Difference
When Mark arrived at WellSky nearly seven years ago, he was driven by a powerful belief: the future of healthcare lies in empowering people to receive care in the comfort of their own homes. Witnessing the limitations of traditional healthcare systems, he saw the potential of data science to revolutionize how we deliver care. Today, looking at the significant growth of in-home care solutions, including "hospital at home" programs, it's clear that Mark's vision is becoming a reality.
From Solo Scientist to Team Leader
Mark joined WellSky as the company's first data scientist. While the team was small and nimble, there wasn't a lot of structure in place. Fast forward to today, and Mark's role has evolved dramatically. He now focuses on building a strong team, removing roadblocks for his talented data scientists, and ensuring that WellSky's clients get the most value out of their data-driven solutions.
