We had 23 technical interns join the WellSky team this summer. Throughout their internship, they contributed to meaningful projects that sharpened their technical abilities and gained experience by turning ideas into working solutions.

The 2026 Summer Technical Intern Program placed interns across areas of the technology organization, where they joined an engineering team, picked up use cases, and pushed code.

The technical work spanned teams across WellSky engineering. Interns on security teams tackled vulnerability remediation. In the AI Center of Excellence, interns explored large language models and contributed to AI initiatives designed to support teammate workflows.

Other interns focused on the data layer, standing up quality dashboards and metrics tooling that give leaders visibility into system health and team performance. On the infrastructure and DevOps side, interns got familiar with cloud environments, CI/CD pipelines, and automation.  

A key strength of the program was the opportunity for interns to work alongside experienced engineers in their environment. They participated in sprint ceremonies, collaborated with their teams, contributed to projects, and gained hands-on experience with the same tools, processes, and challenges that software teams navigate every day.

The summer was not all pull requests and stand-ups. The cohort volunteered at Kansas City Hospice House, putting WellSky's mission into motion alongside the hospice care providers the company serves. They competed in the Kansas City Corporate Challenge, kicked off FIFA World Cup festivities at the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce event, and spent an evening at Kauffman Stadium cheering on the Royals. An AI Immersion Day gave every intern dedicated time to explore emerging tools and techniques. And at the OPCC Young Professionals Panel, interns connected with local leaders and represented WellSky in the broader Overland Park community.

The success of the summer internship program isn't measured solely by what interns learn during their time at WellSky but is also reflected in the ideas they bring and the influence they have on the teams they join.  

Many mentors and leaders shared a common sentiment: while they were there to teach and guide, they often found themselves learning just as much from the interns' curiosity, fresh perspectives, and innovative ways of approaching challenges. Those lessons, and the impact of the interns' contributions, remain long after the summer concludes.
