Getting to know Dan

At WellSky, we’re fortunate to have a team of engineers dedicated to building systems that truly make a difference. This week, we’re spotlighting Dan Doughty, whose work and journey are nothing short of inspiring.

Based in Miami Beach, Florida, Dan Doughty serves as a senior staff software engineer in DevOps at WellSky. In his role, he focuses on enhancing system reliability, optimizing performance, and driving automation, all with the goal of supporting the critical needs of WellSky’s clients. His work plays a key role in ensuring that the systems our clients depend on are stable, efficient, and scalable.

Dan brings a wealth of experience to the team. Prior to joining WellSky, he worked at Sprint Nextel, ensuring the stability of FCC-regulated systems with high uptime requirements. He also contributed to Epiq, a large-scale data warehouse company, where he gained valuable enterprise experience. But perhaps most remarkably, Dan has also served in humanitarian and military intelligence advisory roles in the Ukraine-Russia conflict zone. There, he supported efforts in drone detection and defense, an experience that reflects both technical skill and a commitment to service.

Life outside of work

Outside of the office, Dan is passionate about running, exploring new technologies, and shooting sports. Weekends often find him outdoors, staying active and mentally sharp through a mix of physical activity and tech tinkering.

His proudest personal accomplishment? Contributing to frontline efforts in Ukraine not only by embedding with units and helping train them in drone defense tactics, but by also helping secure funding for critical systems. That level of impact speaks volumes about who Dan is.

Dan’s journey at WellSky

Dan was drawn to WellSky because of our mission to improve healthcare and social services through technology. What stood out to him right away was the company’s collaborative and client-focused environment.

Since joining, Dan’s role has evolved from traditional DevOps work to include:

  • Leading strategic performance initiatives
  • Driving cloud-native transformations in Azure
  • Launching cross-functional efforts that streamline client implementations

One major challenge he tackled was navigating complex system upgrades under tight deadlines. Thanks to his leadership, Dan helped the team achieve 99.99% uptime, meeting a key MBO target which is a testament to excellence and execution.

Another standout accomplishment? Dan introduced a Scrum environment that better aligns sprint goals with actual business needs, resulting in smoother stakeholder collaboration and more impactful outcomes for clients.
